In the 450 sqm music camp, the creative educational environment combining exposed concrete, natural oak, and acoustic rooms — interior architecture for musicians.
Music education requires a specialised spatial infrastructure beyond the standard classroom. A.P. Music Camp (Seyrek, İzmir) is a distinctive complex, initiated under the guidance of a celebrated artist, where musicians receive long-term residential training. For WELL MIMARLIK, this project was the experience of transforming acoustic challenge into design opportunity.
Project Summary
Location: Seyrek, İzmir Area: 450 sqm Material Palette: Exposed concrete / Natural oak / Charcoal details Category: Education – Music Camp & Residency
Acoustic Priority: Foundation of the Design
The heart of music room design is acoustics. At A.P. Music Camp, sound insulation and sound absorption had to simultaneously meet different requirements: rehearsal rooms must not leak sound to other rooms, but the internal acoustics of each room must be appropriate to the instrument being played.
This isolation was achieved with soundproof partition walls (acoustic board + infill + second plasterboard layer), door draught seals, and a specialist floor-raising system. In the recording studio, the "room within a room" technique was applied: the studio was positioned within a completely independent shell, with vibration transmission to the rest of the building blocked.
A Material Palette That Nourishes Creativity
Exposed concrete, natural oak, and charcoal details created an atmosphere the artist would associate with creative energy. "Industrial but warm" — the solution to this paradox was material layering: raw concrete surfaces warmed with oak details, while charcoal accents added depth and contrast to the space.
Functional Programming
Rehearsal rooms: Acoustic customisation for various instrument groups (percussion room required separate noise management). Recording studio: Control room and studio booth, isolated floor and ceiling system. Residential section: Individual room design supporting long-term living for musicians — desk, instrument storage, sound isolation. Common areas: Relaxation and social zones without acoustic priority. These areas, where artists playing different instruments spend time together, nurtured the community spirit of the camp.
