Holikids is a 320 sqm kindergarten and education centre project focused on child development, located in the vibrant fabric of Alsancak. This centre, where children discover their areas of interest through physical and mental activities, aimed to offer a meaningful spatial experience for both parents and children.

Project Summary

Location: Alsancak, İzmir Area: 320 sqm Material Palette: Natural ash wood / Orange acoustic panels Category: Education – Kindergarten & Development Centre

Concept: Seeing Through the Child's Eyes

The first principle of the design was to evaluate every decision from the child's perspective. For the 3–6 age group, every element — from window height to display arrangement — was designed with the child's eye level and physical reach in mind. This transformed the space into a safe, stimulating environment where children can explore independently.

Spatial Programming

At Holikids, functional zones were clearly differentiated: play and motor skills development area, music room, sports hall, classrooms and educational rooms, parent waiting area (with a café theme), and administrative office and meeting room. This differentiation both increased activity focus and prevented possible noise conflicts.

Colour and Material Decisions

Natural ash wood is the primary material decision for Holikids. Both healthy and warm, this material contributed to children's tactile experience while also being long-lasting and easy to clean. Orange acoustic panels both managed sound and added vibrancy and energy to the space.

The colour palette was consciously restrained: orange and yellow energise active zones, while cream and light timber tones calm rest and concentration zones.
