Bademler is a small but distinctive settlement attached to İzmir's Urla district. With its centuries-old olive trees, stone walls, and slow-moving village life, Bademler stands out as one of the most tranquil villa locations in the İzmir area. N.E. Villa was designed in this context to both preserve and converse with the olive grove texture.

Project Summary

Location: Bademler, Urla Area: 360 sqm Material Palette: Natural stone / Teak timber / Glass Year: 2025

Dialogue with the Olive Grove

The view visible when windows are opened from the villa is a sea of silvery olive leaves. Placing this view at the centre of the design determined where windows would open, at what size, and in which direction. The living room opened to the east with a wide glass facade; morning light flooded in. The master bedroom faced west, serving the sunset view.

Stone and Teak Combination

Natural stone was sourced locally; stone artisans from Urla and surroundings were engaged. In the interior, stone was used not only as floor but as a "connection to earth" element on certain walls. Teak timber would lighten this heavy material: teak was used for door and window frames, bespoke kitchen cabinetry, and the outdoor pergola.

Glass and Interior-Exterior Transition

In this project, glass functioned as a relationship-maker beyond being a material. Glass panel sliders around the inner courtyard, large doors opening to the garden, and upper glass giving light to the mezzanine above the double-height living room — all these elements unified the space with the olive groves.
