Design decisions balancing prestige, confidentiality, and employee productivity in office and law firm interior architecture, and lessons from WELL MIMARLIK's SK Law Office project.
One of the most nuanced areas of commercial space design is the professional office and law firm project. These spaces function both as the setting for first encounters with clients (trust and prestige) and as the place where employees spend most of the day (productivity and comfort). Reconciling these two functions in a single design is the most valuable contribution of an experienced interior architect.
The SK Law Office project (Balıkesir) (view in portfolio) is a 180 square metre study in which we aimed to strike this balance. A palette of matte black, oak veneer, and brass details communicated both power and refinement.
Reception Area: Architecture of the First Impression
A client arriving at a law office or consultancy perceives a great deal the moment they enter: meticulous order, quality materials, silence, professional environment. This accumulated perception produces the feeling of "trustworthiness." Reception zone design is critical for this reason: backlit logo, solid-surface reception desk, comfortable waiting seating — each element builds client confidence.
The seating arrangement should move away from open-office thinking, offering a separate and personal experience. In law offices, the waiting area is not a communal reception room — it is a preparation area where each client feels individually attended to.
Meeting Room: Architectural Guarantee of Confidentiality
The most important requirement in law firm meeting room design is acoustic isolation. Sound transmission forbidden, visual element permitted: glass-partitioned meeting rooms provide a sense of transparency while increasing trust when soundproofed. Floor finish (carpet or soft vinyl), fabric chairs, and ceiling acoustic tiles determine this room's sound absorption capacity.
The number of chairs around the table is typically designed for 6–12. In furniture selection, heavy and solid-appearing pieces reinforce the sense of authority.
Individual Offices
In law firms, lawyer offices are dual-function spaces requiring both intense concentration and client consultations. Ergonomic chair, adjustable lighting, concealed cable management, and ample storage — these meet functional requirements. Bookshelves also serve both practical (file and reference access) and symbolic (indicator of expertise and experience) functions; they are therefore treated as one of the focal elements of the design.
General Office: Open-Plan and Focus Balance
Open-plan office layouts provide efficient communication; however, focus zones are also needed. Placing acoustic panels or plant dividers between workstations provides both visual and acoustic privacy. In ergonomic desk and chair selection, employee health is a priority both from a human welfare and long-term productivity perspective.
Brand Identity
In professional offices, reflecting brand identity through visual language reinforces institutional reputation. Brand colours can be concealed within accents; historical photographs or founders' portraits convey confidence and heritage; consistency in material selection expresses professionalism.
At SK Law, the network of brass details and matte black frames reinforced the firm's modern and powerful identity. This network was repeated throughout the space, creating a sense of coherence.
Technical Requirements
In office projects, cable management, network infrastructure, HVAC zoning, and audio systems are invisible but vital. Cable routing can be concealed with underfloor feeds or ceiling cassettes — providing both cleanliness and ease of renovation.
Hybrid Work and the Future of Office Design
Post-pandemic office design has changed permanently. Instead of full-time desk work, the hybrid model — collaboration in office, focus at home — has become widespread. This change redefines how office square metres are used: fewer fixed desks, more meeting rooms, phone booths, and social areas.
In law firms, privacy and prestige must be preserved in a way compatible with hybrid mode. Sound-insulated meeting rooms, individual lawyer offices, and secure file storage remain priorities. At SK Law Balıkesir, the matte black, oak, and brass palette communicated both power and refinement.
Ergonomics is no longer preference but necessity. Adjustable desk, lumbar-support chair, monitor height, and eye-rest lighting protect employee health. While brand identity is reflected in the office, restrained luxury and material consistency are preferred over exaggerated corporate language. A well-designed office increases both employee loyalty and client trust simultaneously.
WELL MIMARLIK Expert Insight
Projects we have carried out in office design across İzmir and the Aegean region have shown us: good design is not invisible, it is felt. When the client steps into the space they experience the feeling of "rightness" — this feeling is not accidental but the sum of hundreds of small decisions. In works such as SK Law Balıkesir, we embodied this principle.
Every project is unique; we do not offer template solutions. In the discovery meeting we listen, analyse, and draw a roadmap specific to the client. Budget and duration are shared transparently; surprises are minimised. At WELL MIMARLIK we are with you in your office design projects — from design to handover.
Practical Recommendations: For Office and Law Firm Owners
Meeting room count should be planned in proportion to team size; sound-insulated glass partition should be preferred. Reception area determines the client's first impression; quality materials and silence communicate trust. Cable management and power infrastructure are invisible but critical.
In hybrid work model, fixed desk count can be reduced; meeting rooms and phone booths increased. Brand colours should be used in accents, not spread across the entire space. Ergonomic standards are minimum requirements in WELL MIMARLIK office projects.
Budget and Timeline
Office and law firm project budgets are determined by square metres, proportion of bespoke furniture, acoustic isolation, and brand identity integration. A 150–250 square metre office may take four to eight months from concept to handover; glass-partitioned meeting rooms and concealed cable infrastructure affect duration. Forty to forty-five per cent of the budget typically goes to implementation and labour, thirty to forty per cent to materials, ten to twenty-five per cent to furniture and technical systems. At WELL MIMARLIK, client experience and employee ergonomics are planned together. Materials and lighting decided early reduce site revisions.

Conclusion and Assessment
WELL MIMARLIK's approach in office and commercial space rests on three principles: function, aesthetics, and sustainability. These three are not considered separately; every design decision must satisfy all three simultaneously. The geography, climate, and living culture of İzmir and the Aegean region make every project unique. We do not offer template solutions; we draw a specific roadmap for every client, every space, every budget. Transparent communication from discovery meeting to handover, regular approval meetings, and quality control are our standard practice.
A well-designed space does not only look beautiful; it feels right, increases efficiency, strengthens brand value. WELL MIMARLIK is with you for your office and commercial space project — from design to implementation, from 3D visualisation to site management.

For distant projects, coordination is provided through 3D visualisation and regular video site updates.
Frequently Asked Questions
**Open office or enclosed rooms?** In law firms confidentiality is prioritised; a hybrid model (open work + sound-insulated meeting rooms) is recommended.
**How is meeting room acoustics achieved?** Glass partition + acoustic board + carpet/floor finish combination. Sound transmission testing before handover is recommended.
**How does brand identity reflect in the space?** Through accent colours, material consistency, and reception details. Restrained luxury is preferred over exaggerated corporate identity.
