Designing a stone villa in Foça is both a privileged and responsible task. From the historic Foça walls to the unspoilt coast of Türkelli, the region's fabric is shaped by local limestone. Ö.T. Stone Villa is a residential project engaged in sincere dialogue with this heritage, while also carrying a contemporary living demand.

Project Summary

Location: Foça, İzmir Area: 280 sqm Material Palette: Local Foça stone / Teak timber / Brushed steel Year: 2024

The Language of Local Stone

Foça limestone is the lead character of this project. Used both on the facade and in the interior, this stone invited the region's geography inside the home. Different processing methods for the stone created different spatial characters: rough-cut stone on interior walls formed a hard and authentic texture, while polished stone floor surfaces reflected light to give a contemporary feel.

Warmth with Teak Timber

Teak was used strategically to balance the hardness of the stone. In ceiling cladding, bespoke kitchen cabinetry, and the exterior facade pergola, teak offered a both long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing solution with its tropical durability. Wide teak-framed doors enabling the interior-exterior transition expanded and unified the space.

Light and View Composition

The villa's location and placement on the land were analysed to provide the most efficient access to Foça bay views. The living room and master bedroom were oriented north-west to benefit from sunset light. The window system was kept generously proportioned; solar control was achieved with external louvred sun-breaks.
