The Sanayi Camii project is WELL MIMARLIK's most comprehensive work in the religious building category. This 850 sqm mosque built in Ulukent, İzmir undertook the task of meeting a modern architectural language with traditional Islamic aesthetics.

Project Summary

Location: Ulukent, İzmir Area: 850 sqm Material Palette: White marble / Calligraphic glass / Gold leaf Year: 2024

Spiritual Atmosphere

The primary tool of spiritual atmosphere design is abstraction. White marble surfaces illuminated the space by inviting morning sunlight inside. Calligraphic glass transformed sunlight into coloured patterns of Quranic verses.

Acoustic Excellence

To ensure the call to prayer and Quranic recitation reached every corner equally and intelligibly, the loudspeaker system was designed as embedded in the dome. This withdrew the sound source from the visual field while acoustic distribution was kept at optimum levels.

Light Cycle

The mosque experienced different light profiles for the five daily prayers. Gold light reaching mihrab alignment at morning prayer, peak brightness of the central dome at noon prayer, soft shadows of changing angles at afternoon and evening. This cycle occurred naturally.
